The University of Gloucestershire is offering anyone with an enquiring mind the chance to improve it a bit with a series of free public lectures.
Starting in mid May, several leading academics are giving their inaugural public lectures on a wide range of subjects. The lectures, which aim to share new insights and research, will be hosted and delivered by a field expert, either from the University of Gloucester itself or from one of its partners.
The lectures are free to attend
The series of lectures is free to the public but you will have to book your place in advance through Eventbrite. The lectures will all take place at the university’s Park Campus in Cheltenham and they all start at 4.00pm, running until 6.30pm.
First up in the series was ‘Big Disco Pants and Other Kinds of Disinformation’, delivered by contemporary art professor Andrew Bick on Wednesday May 15.
Professor Bick talked about his work as both artist and researcher and shared some of the insights he’s gained from his project on the work of Jeffrey Steele, Gillian Wise and Anthony Hill.
On May 29, the university’s professor of computing, Hassan Chizari, will host his lecture ‘Randomness in Computing and Cyber Security’. Professor Chizari, who leads the Cyber Security MSc course, will talk about his research into randomness and how it can be applied within the cyber security field. Professor Chizari is conducting research into making implantable and wearable devices safer and more secure against hackers.
The middle of June sees Professor Adeela Shafi MBE presenting her lecture ‘Chuck Them Out and Throw Away the Key: the Education of Incarcerated Children’. This lecture is set for Wednesday June 19 and Professor Shafi will share her insights from her research into reengaging children who’ve been in custody with education. Professor Shafi has worked a lot on various international projects and she aims to raise awareness of this often-overlooked issue.
