Moving home is always stressful, but add Christmas into the mix and it can feel like a recipe for disaster!
However, with a bit of forethought and kindness to yourselves, you can make it a Yuletide to remember for good reasons.
Make a list and check it twice
We always recommend making a list if you’re moving home, but it’s doubly important if you’re moving at Christmas because there’s so many other things to remember.
Keep a list online and in a notebook (as well as maybe a corkboard in the hallway and even on the back of your hand!). It’s easy to get so wrapped up in worrying about ruining Christmas that you forget the basics and – end up ruining Christmas!
Book your removal
This is a biggie – many companies are working fewer hours over the holiday season so you need to pin down a slot as soon as you can. Having your removers booked also gives you a fixed point to work to.
Do your Christmas shopping early
Hit the shops early so that you’ve got everything out of the way before you get busy with packing. Do, however, remember NOT to mix up all those amazing presents with the rest of your possessions – dedicate a special box or two for them or hand them to relatives before the big day.
Prepare for snow
While snow is increasingly unlikely, it helps to have a bag of gritted salt handy just in case the road and your new garden path is a bit icy. You’ll be doing a lot of toing and froing so you need to have secure footing.
Arrange a food delivery
Although shops are open for extra hours over the Christmas season, you might not feel like heading out for groceries in the cold and dark in an unfamiliar area after a hard day’s unpacking.
Having the security of an online food delivery is a nice little gift to yourselves and gives you a couple more hours to get your new home in order before Christmas Day.
Treat your buyers
The buyers of your old home are probably going through the same stress as you, so leave them a seasonal welcome pack. A few Christmas treats, a bottle of fizz and a card will really raise their spirits.
